Silver Falls State Park is a state park located near Silverton, east-southeast of Salem. It is the largest state park in Oregon, as per Mr. Wikipedia. And upon reading and researching about the park, I just found out that this was one of the Twilight filming locations. Pretty neat, huh! I’ve seen all the movies but I guess I’m not an avid fan. I didn’t know until this post. 🙂
This was Summer 2017, B and I visited Silver Falls State Park to go hiking — to burn some carbs and at the same time explore the park. Summer just started then so we were very excited to be outside. It was very refreshing to be out in the sun after long months of cold weather. I can’t believe Fall is already here.
How to Get There?
- It’s an hour and half drive from North Portland, where I live. 😉
- As per Google Map, it takes a day on foot to the park or 6 hrs by bicycle from Downtown PDX.
- For bus/train options, go here.
We arrived at the park early in the morning to avoid the crowd and the heat of the sun at noon time. 😉
Here’s a guide. I believe we did the Canyon Trail, Winter Trail and Rim Trail. We didn’t see all 10 falls but I think we saw 7. My toes got beat up too, I wasn’t wearing the right shoes for the activity. 😀 But all is well now, it’s been 3 months, the bruises on my toes are almost gone.
What to bring*?
- Water, lots of water.
- Wear hiking shoes, some areas are really steep and your feet need that extra protection. 🙂
- Sweater in case the temperature drops
- Hat & Sunglasses
*This applies to when you are only hiking short trails like ours. We left some of our road trip must haves in the car.
You can never go wrong with nature, it’s always wondrous. The waterfalls were very beautiful.
Travel more and have an awesome day! xoxo.
